Palo Santo literally means "holy wood" and, like White Sage, has its origins with the native Indians of South America. Centuries ago, they were already using it during ceremonies to cleanse the aura and heal from negative influences.

Palo Santo is known as a spiritual oil, traditionally used by the Incas to purify and cleanse the spirit of negative energies.

The scent can be described as a warm, woody, and light aroma, with a hint of sweetness sometimes creeping in. Compared to white sage (which is also used for the same purpose), Palo Santo has a very mild scent.
