Journals with real personality – crafted in Nepal from traditional Lokta paper and brimming with charm, texture, and meaning.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The delicate tones of fresh green and simple botanical pattern give this notebook a calm, natural feel. Compact yet full of character, it’s designed for everyday notes, sketches, or quiet moments of writing, with a distinctive bamboo toggle clasp adding an artisanal touch.

Measuring 15x12cm, it contains 45 pages of plain paper, offering ample space for ideas while remaining easy to carry. The floral-inspired cover features layered shades of green for an organic, natural look, while the bamboo toggle keeps pages neatly secured when not in use. Ideal for journaling, travel notes, or daily lists, it balances practicality with a warm, handcrafted style suitable for personal use or thoughtful giving.

What is Lokta Paper?

Lokta is a natural, eco-friendly paper made from the bark of the Daphne plant, which grows in the high-altitude forests of the Himalayan region, particularly in Nepal. The plant is remarkable for its ability to regenerate after harvesting, making it a sustainable resource that doesn't require deforestation.

To make Lokta paper, the bark is stripped from the plant without damaging its roots. It is then soaked, hand-pounded, and spread into sheets using traditional wooden frames. These sheets are sun-dried and sometimes further embellished with petals, leaves, cotton fibers, or natural dyes. The process is labour-intensive but has a low environmental impact, often done in small village workshops as part of community-driven, fair-trade production.

Lokta paper is prized for its strength, durability, and rich texture. Unlike mass-produced papers, it has a naturally fibrous, slightly irregular surface that gives it a distinctive handmade character. It is resistant to tearing and moisture, making it popular for wrapping, bookbinding, and crafts.
